LIBRARY SERVICES
The operation of the University Library shall be organized into two (2) broad categories of services: Technical Services and Readers Services. 1. Technical Services Responsible for the acquisition and classification of library materials. Upon acquisition, books and other library materials undergo different mechanical and technical processes. They should first be made ready for circulation and use. These shall comprise functions of selection, cataloging and classification, preservation, conservation, deselection and other related activities. 2. Readers Services Readers services shall refer to those library activities where direct contact with the customer occurs on a daily basis. These shall include the following sections and other special services. 2.1. General Circulation Section This area handles the borrowing and returning of books for library and home use. a. Reserve area - Textbooks, book and other library materials are found at this area. They are in-demand or may be single or multi-copies of titles of textbook, books and other library materials. These library materials are not allowed to be borrowed for overnight use but it can be photocopied. These are for room use only. b. Filipiniana area - Books about the Philippines in the different subject fields by Filipino authors published here or abroad. c. Foreign books area d. Graduate school area - Professional books for use of graduate students 2.2. Learning Commons The Learning Commons is usually an academic library that provides the space, technology and services to support learning. These learning spaces can include areas for group work, individual study spaces, instructional space, tablet and IPAD corner, lounge area, conference area and soft seating areas. 2.3. Periodical and General Reference Section General reference materials such as dictionaries, bibliographies,encyclopedias, almanacs, atlases, yearbooks and directories which are needed for locating specific materials or information are found in this section. It also houses book, journal and other collections of the Economic and Financial Learning Center of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Vertical file materials such as clippings, bounded magazines and journals, newspapers are also found in this section. These materials are for ROOM USE ONLY. 2.4. E-Library Section The E-Library section is intended solely for online research, using the university provided workstations or through portable devices brought in by students. Manuscript and dissertations written by students and graduate students are digitized here. 2.5. Theses Section Thesis and Dissertation from SLSU students are located in this area. 2.6. Inter-Library Referral Service A referral letter is issued to any member of the faculty, administrative staff and students who may want to use the library of other institution. 2.7. Current Awareness Service Lists of newly acquired books and other materials sent to the Deans to inform the faculty of recent acquisitions. It is also posted at the bulletin board, E-bulletin and SLSU Library Webpage. 2.8. Instructional Services Library Orientation The Library Orientation Program offers freshmen students and transferees an introduction to the library’s resources and services, as well as information on study skills to help make the new student experience successful. The objectives of the library orientation are to familiarize students with the library facility, resources and services. 2.9. Mini Museum Include documents about the establishment of the Southern Luzon State University, the annual reports and other publications as well as other related documents. 2.10. Office of the Director of Library Services. Administers and supervises the entire library and provides consultation and guidance on the library and information services. |
